New Post(a)

Dear friends!
A long time has passed since last time we posted a comment on the blog. During this time we have made loads of experiences. For the moment they have a sour taste but they will probably be translated into good old stories from the time when “I was 24 years old and travelled in Africa”. The attentive reader might have already seen some pictures from our excursion to Lake Victoria. The trip started of rather bad with a cancellation of the trip on the parking lot on departure day. We had still focus on doing a trip so we left for a weekend in Bagamoyo, approx. an our north of Dar. When we returned from Bagamoyo we received a message that we were to leave for Lake Victoria the following morning. This day (oct. 9th) we really left for a big adventure! We spent the first day in the car just looking out on the passing landscape. Our destination was Arusha and on the way there we passed Mount Kilimanjaro. In Arusha we had the first hot water shower since our arrival in Tanzania. The next day we started off really early. This day we first passed by Ngorogoro and later we travelled through Serengeti, though Arne Weise was not present. In the beginning of the trip just to see a zebra was a blast but later on we got to see a lot of animals, like elephants, giraffes, hippos, baboons and also a lion.

Regarding our planned work it started off very good. We had great local help and our friend (that we have gotten with help from the Norwegian state) set us up with a good translator. On the second day of interviews our study was stopped by the local authorities who needed letters off approval from their directors in Dar. We started off this process through our friends/contacts back in Dar. Documents were produced and presented but everything boiled down to us lacking a crucial document. This document was to take to much time and money to get so we decided not to carry on with the study. Simultaneous we caught malaria, which made the process even trickier to manage. Jonas was first out to get the diagnosis followed by Morris some days later. Our friend got us a ride back to Mwanza, a big city by the lake, where we have been passing about one week in bed, just recovering. Our return trip was planned with the same car that had brought us to the lake zone. Unfortunately our seats in the car was given to some ones cousins the morning of departure, a fact that made us just go to the ticket office and buy return tickets to Dar with the first possible flight.

Now we are back in Dar, feeling much better but still recovering. This morning we did a malaria check up which proved to be negative, for both of us. We are now trying to sort out the balance between work and leisure for the remaining weeks.

From Bongo land with love!/Jonas and Morris

Oh damn, I feel sorry for you for the Malaria! :-( I hope you both feel much better now.

So tell us more about the study.. or rather the lack of one. Was it that hard to get permission? You can't do your MFS at all? Or was it "only" a part of it that got spoiled?

Hugs from Sweden

Hello dear readers,
We are both much better now, morris got the comment that he had got his color back again so that must be a sign of recovery!

regarding the study our aim is to keep it rolling but smooth enough so that it wont disturbe the officials. We will see how lucky we are!

Love!
